Add friends across platforms
- Open Main Menu → Play with Friends.
- Select Friend Code to enter your friend’s code, or Generate Code to give them your own.
- Start the world in Multiplayer mode and invite your group. Everyone needs the same game build and branch.
Friend Codes add players; Save Codes transfer saved worlds. If your group includes an Epic player, use the default branch: the official support FAQ currently lists Experimental only on Steam and Xbox. Experimental players cannot join default-branch players.

If Subnautica 2 crossplay fails after a hotfix
Crossplay support does not bypass storefront rollout timing. Buddy System Hotfix 2 is a free automatic update, but mixed Steam + Xbox or Steam + Windows Store groups still need the same public-branch build. Restart the client, install available updates, and compare versions before changing network settings.
