Shiver Leviathan (Void Leviathan)
Shiver Leviathan is the current official patch name for the creature associated with Void Leviathan searches. The databank describes a large female traveling with smaller males in deep open water. Keep a route back toward known terrain.
Quick answer: Buddy System Hotfix 2, released October 6, says Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. It does not promise safety for a nearby diver, an occupied Tadpole or other creature species.

Shiver vs Void Leviathan
Look for Shiver Leviathan in the official October 6 patch and the in-game databank title. Void Leviathan remains a search term associated with this creature and its open-water setting. This page keeps both names together so you can find the current vehicle change.
A “shiver” is a group of sharks. The databank describes a sexually dimorphic species: a very large female travels with smaller, more agile males. The separate Shiver Male entry describes those smaller hunters rather than an unrelated Leviathan species.
Recognize the female and smaller males
The species has an armored skull and developed limbs resembling wings and claws. The female has distinctive tail organs that the databank suggests may serve a long-range sonar role. The smaller males lack those organs and depend on the female during long journeys.
The databank describes coordinated hunts: the female engages large challengers while the males attack smaller companions. This is identification and threat context, not a measured attack schedule, pursuit timer or damage table.
If you encounter multiple silhouettes, do not assume the large animal is the only threat. Keep the group’s location in mind while turning back, and avoid stopping in featureless water to inspect each individual.
Unpiloted Tadpoles after Hotfix 2
The official change is narrow: Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. Apply it to that species and vehicle state. The patch does not say occupied vehicles are protected or that stepping out makes the surrounding water safe.
Choose where to leave a Tadpole around the route home, available power and the distance you can swim on your remaining oxygen. Avoid treating the parked-vehicle fix as a reason to get out next to a Leviathan.
The same hotfix fixes Tadpoles incorrectly teleported when returning from out-of-bounds areas, including destroyed vehicles with attached chassis. That is a recovery fix, not an unlock for a new region or a guarantee that the vehicle survives an encounter.
Responding to an open-water encounter
Turn toward your last known terrain or a beacon inside familiar waters. Keep a consistent heading; repeatedly turning to watch the creature can make the return harder. Choose the shortest clear route you actually know.
Check oxygen before a scan or swim away from the vehicle. A fully upgraded Tadpole and a co-op partner are not documented entry requirements and do not guarantee survival. Solo players need the same preparation: a known exit, enough air and a powered way home.
In co-op, call out your heading and regroup point. Do not depend on a guaranteed distraction or presumed aggro reset. If someone dies, arrange recovery from a safe location instead of sending every player into the same encounter without supplies.
Common questions
Is the Shiver Leviathan also called the Void Leviathan?
Shiver Leviathan is the in-game databank and current official patch name for the creature covered by this Void Leviathan page. Its smaller companions have a Shiver Male databank entry.
Can Shiver Leviathans attack an unpiloted Tadpole?
Buddy System Hotfix 2 says Shiver Leviathans no longer interact with unpiloted vehicles. It does not make the same promise for piloted vehicles or nearby divers.
Do you need a fully upgraded Tadpole and a co-op partner?
No official requirement establishes that combination as necessary or sufficient. Plan an exit and oxygen reserve; neither upgrades nor an extra player guarantees a safe encounter.
