How to recognize the Collector

Look for the long mantle and four large hunting tentacles ending in claws. Smaller arms surround its beak. The databank describes an armored body and a powerful rear-facing thruster: a different silhouette from the winged Shiver Leviathan or the broad, shelled Deepwing Brooder.

Its broadcast organ is described as a complex sonar system. That connection makes the Sonic Echo reward easier to remember: this is the Leviathan associated with a resource-detecting sonar ability.

The databank describes a solitary, intelligent animal adapted to hard-shelled prey. It warns that small submersibles and habitats can attract its interest. These observations explain its ecology; they do not give a fixed detection radius or guaranteed safe building distance.

Collector scan reward: Sonic Echo

Use the Bioscanner research system to pursue Sonic Echo. A normal Scanner databank entry and a Bioscanner research objective serve different purposes, so check research progress instead of assuming that identifying the animal has already equipped an ability.

Sonic Echo is an active Biomod that sends out a sonar pulse highlighting nearby resources. The Collector is its creature research target in the PC build 128456 unlock list. Review the ability at a Biolab after completing the research and fit it into your available active loadout.

Plan the encounter around the scan. Check tool power and oxygen before approaching, keep the vehicle on a known return line, and break off if the animal closes the distance. The research objective does not ask you to kill the Collector.

Prepare the approach and retreat

Mark a route back toward familiar terrain before stopping to observe the animal. A charged Tadpole provides transport and oxygen support, but the swim between you and the vehicle still needs its own air budget. Park with room to depart and avoid squeezing into a dead end.

In co-op, agree who is navigating and where the group will regroup. Do not assume one player can reliably hold the creature’s attention while everyone else scans. If you lose sight of the return route, re-establish your bearings before continuing.

Buddy System gives the Sonic Resonator a 10-second stun and changes the Feedback Resonator to a stun response. Those general tool changes do not establish that every Leviathan is affected in every state; keep your escape route usable without depending on a stun.

Canyon pathing and Tadpole grab changes

Buddy System Hotfix 1 improves Collector pathing and collision in lower canyon areas. An older clip in which the animal becomes stuck is therefore a poor basis for planning a safe scan or permanent base.

The October 6 Buddy System Hotfix 2 improves the Leviathan grab attack on the Tadpole. The note does not name a species, damage value or cooldown. It also fixes docking checks blocked by the Tadpole’s own geometry and incorrect recovery from out-of-bounds areas.

Treat an unexpected docking failure separately from creature behavior. After updating, try a clear approach with your installed chassis and record the orientation if the issue persists. Keep the vehicle repaired before beginning the encounter.
