Launch-window answer: Steam, Epic, and Xbox had preload access before launch. The preload pulled 12.9 GB, leaving 14.56 GB installed on disk. PC Game Pass did not preload; that download started at unlock.

PC Game Pass
No preload
The PC Game Pass download began only after the game unlocked on May 14. Console Game Pass followed the normal Xbox preload flow.
How the May 2026 preload worked
Steam
Steam offered the preload in the Library before release. The archived compressed download was 12.9 GB; current installs use the normal Install button.
Epic Games Store
Epic offered preload access before launch. Current owners can install from their Epic library.
Xbox (console)
The console library offered preload before launch. Current Xbox installs show their required storage on the console; the PC figure does not establish the console package size.
PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass downloads began after the May 14, 2026 unlock. Current subscribers can install through the Xbox app with a qualifying plan.
Things to sort before a fresh install
The preload window is over, but the same account and storage checks still prevent install problems.
- Use the current installer size and the official PC storage requirement of 50 GB when preparing the drive. Keep additional room for patching and save backups.
- Sign in to the right account. If you bought on a different Steam account, or your Game Pass is on a family member's profile, fix that before installing.
- Update the launcher itself. Steam and the Xbox app may need their own updates before installing or launching a game.
- If the store still shows the wrong entitlement state, restart the launcher before assuming the servers are down. Local cache delays are still a common cause.
