Subnautica 2 Early Access Hotfix 4 Fixes Angel Combs Progression Bug
Unknown Worlds published Early Access Hotfix 4 on July 14, 2026. It is the first hotfix after Update 1 Adaptive Measures and it addresses a real progression blocker: Angel Combs that would not open for some players. It also removes water currents that were appearing inside player bases, brings the FOV slider into view on Xbox, and fixes two low-volume crashes. None of the fixes change gameplay balance, but the Angel Combs and base-currents items directly affect pages players are already searching.
What Hotfix 4 fixes
Hotfix 4 is a focused stability and progression pass. The most important fix is the Angel Combs not opening issue, which was blocking progression for affected players. The patch also removes water currents that were appearing inside player bases — the official note names movement interference, players getting stuck, and the inability to build or expand bases as the symptoms. That is a real base-building answer, not just cleanup.
The remaining fixes are platform and crash stability: the FOV slider was not showing on Xbox (it shipped on PC in Update 1 Adaptive Measures), and two low-volume crashes were closed — a crash on Xbox when joining a session invite, and a crash related to creature spawn.
Compatibility after the patch
Unknown Worlds notes that outdated third-party modifications can cause crashes or unexpected behavior after a game update. That compatibility warning does not identify the cause of every startup failure.
Where this fits in the patch line
Hotfix 4 followed Update 1 Adaptive Measures (July 8, 2026). It did not add new mechanics, biomes or items; it addressed progression and stability in that update. The latest patch covered here is now Buddy System Hotfix 2, released October 6. This article preserves the earlier July fixes.
At publication, the official note said the hotfix could take time to roll out worldwide and would reach Xbox after certification. That was the July rollout notice, not a statement that Xbox players are still waiting for this patch.
If a July issue still affects your save
Finish available game updates and compare your exact symptom with the known-issues guide. If an Angel Comb still will not open, record your save's progression, location, game build and whether the session is solo or co-op. For currents inside a base or a missing Xbox FOV option, include the affected room or settings screen in a bug report.
Later patches address different faults. Buddy System Hotfix 1 includes save build and branch checks, Axum Powerplant Turbine recovery, Refund Base returns and push-to-talk fixes. The October Hotfix 2 adds Scanner Station accuracy, power after returning to an area, Tadpole docking and voice-detection fixes. Use the patch tied to your symptom when reading older reports.
