Subnautica 2 Early Access Update 1: Adaptive Measures Adds Biolabs, FOV Slider, and Sprint
Unknown Worlds published Early Access Update 1 "Adaptive Measures" on July 8, 2026. At publication it replaced Hotfix 3 as the official baseline; EA 1.2 Buddy System is now the newer public update. Adaptive Measures adds two new Biolabs, raises the pool of unlockable Biomods from four to six, lets the Survival Multitool and Sonic Resonator deter creatures without killing them, and adds a FOV slider and on-land sprint.
What Adaptive Measures adds
Adaptive Measures is a content update, not a hotfix. The headline additions center on the biomod progression layer. Two new Biolabs appear in the Coral Gardens and Axum Ruins areas, and the pool of unlockable Biomods rises from four to six. Scanning creatures with the Bioscanner now unlocks extra passive Biomod slots, replacing the earlier single-slot behavior.
The biomod system that used to sit on the roadmap has shipped, with six unlockable Biomods and Bioscanner scans that open extra passive slots.
Creatures still cannot be killed — but you can push back
This is the change the community asked about most. Hitting most creatures with the Survival Multitool now makes them recoil or flee, and a Sonic Resonator hit leaves most creatures briefly dizzy. Unknown Worlds is explicit that creatures still cannot be killed — these are deterrence tools that buy space, not weapons. The change answers the "can I fight back?" frustration without turning the game into combat farming.
The update also improves Bloom Parasite behavior around the new Coral Gardens and Ruins encounters, and fills in scan data for Periscopic Clowncrab and Necrolei so the discovery system reads more consistently.
Comfort and base-building quality of life
- A FOV slider was added, one of the most-requested comfort options since launch.
- You can now sprint on land and inside bases with a remappable key.
- A standalone storage buildable stays separate from nearby fabrication, which helps keep personal items isolated in co-op.
- Maximum base-demolition size was increased, and Vehicle Dock and Fabricator placement were made smoother.
- Audiologs no longer auto-play; they now show a notification and can be replayed from the PDA.
- The main menu gained Discord and support buttons, and databank entries were reordered.
What comes next
The next named update has now shipped. EA 1.2 Buddy System arrived August 19 with proximity voice chat, player trading, reviving downed teammates, emotes, Tracking Tags, and a large multiplayer fix pass. A larger expansion is still planned for later, adding the Collector Leviathan's permanent habitat, the next story chapter, and a new vehicle chassis; Buddy System did not announce its date.
What Sub2Wiki changed
We moved Adaptive Measures into the shipped update history, updated the Biomods hub to name the two new Biolabs, the six-unlock pool, and the Bioscanner passive-slot mechanic, rewrote the Survival Multitool and creature-combat pages to reflect the new deterrence behavior while keeping the no-kill design intact, and now route the next co-op click to the shipped Buddy System page rather than a roadmap promise.
